Charlene Sunkel

Charlene Sunkel Ms Sunkel is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Global Mental Health Peer Network, an international peer-led organization focused on empowerment and developing lived experience leadership. Ms Sunkel is a person with lived experience and a global voice for the rights of people with lived experience of mental health conditions. She authored and co-authored several papers from a lived experience perspective for leading international publications. She was a Commissioner on the Lancet Commission on Global Mental Health and Sustainable Development and on the Lancet Commission on the Future of Psychiatry. She Co-Chaired the Lancet Commission on Ending Stigma and Discrimination in Mental Health that was launched on 10 October 2022. Ms Sunkel serves on a number of international boards and committees, and previously been on the South African Presidential Working Group on Disability and Ministerial Advisory Committee on Mental Health. Ms Sunkel is the former Principal Coordinator for the Movement for Global Mental Health. Since 2006, she received a number of national and international awards for her work.
Prof. Bonga Chiliza

Bonga Chiliza is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He is the Immediate Past President of the South African Society of Psychiatrists, as well as the Deputy Editor of the South African Journal of Psychiatry. He completed his medical degree and psychiatry specialization at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and his PhD at Stellenbosch University. His research interests include schizophrenia, consultation-liaison psychiatry, health services and medical education. Prof Chiliza has received several awards, including the Hamilton Naki Clinical Research Fellowship, and research grants from international funding agencies. He has also served on a number of NGO Boards, including the SA YMCA and Life Choices. He is one of the Founding Directors of Harambee Medical Consulting and the Africa Global Mental Health Institute.

Guadalupe Morales Cano, is a Journalist and director of Fundación Mundo Bipolar (Spain). Commissioner of Lancet Commission on Stigma and Discrimination in Mental Health. Representative of persons with lived experience at the Spanish Mental Health Strategy. Mrs. Morales had teaching positions at universities in Spain and USA. Currently teaches in the Master of Universitat Jaume I, in Valencia, Spain”, at Universidade NOVA Lisbon, International Learning Program. And at The International Diploma in Mental Health, Human Rights, and Law in Pune, India, promoted by WHO. Honorary Member of WPA. Vice president of ENUSP, (European Network of (-Ex) Users and Survivors of Psychiatry. Her main interests are: raising of the voice of people with mental health problems, at a political level, to have a meaningful involvement in every aspect related to this collective to promote their Rights, developing projects on peer2peer trainings and to professionals.
Jaleta Teressa

Jaleta Teressa Jaleta Teressa is a senior mental health professional working at Nekemte Specialized Hospital in Ethiopia. He has clinical experience of five years in mental health and lecturing experience at college. He also completed training in MHPSS (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support) and MHGAP (Mental Health Gap Action Programme). Jaleta serves as a member of the Global Mental Health Peer Network Country Leadership Committee.
Miia Männikkö

Miia Männikkö has been active in the field of family support for over twenty years. Miia served in different roles in the Finnish family associations, and has been a member of EUFAMI Board of Directors in years 2012-2021. Her educational background is social psychology and her research interests and expertise lie in peer training and empowerment programmes in mental health and family support. Miia has experiences from the projects which developed support methods for family members, for example for children of parents with mental ill health and for the whole family – such as peer support groups, educational courses for the whole family, books for children and education for social and health care professionals, enabling them to support the whole family if one of the members is affected by mental ill health.
