Dr. Myrna Lashley
Island nations’ fight to confront the effects of climate disaster
Dr. Myrna Lashley, Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from McGill University, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at McGill University and a researcher at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research of the Jewish General Hospital. Internationally recognized for her clinical, teaching, and research contributions to cultural psychology, she has served as an advisor to governmental and non-governmental organizations in Canada and abroad. She has received multiple awards, including Member of the Order of Canada (2024) and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Ottawa. She currently serves as Co-Chair of the Collaborative Centre in the Caribbean for Geopsychiatry, Senior Fellow at the International Institute for Geopsychiatry, and Honorary Consul for Barbados in Montreal.
Prof. Dr. Julio Torales
Climate Change and the Future of Psychiatry: Navigating the Next Three Decades
Dr. Julio Torales is a Full Professor of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology at the School of Medical Sciences, National University of Asunción (Paraguay), specializing in Clinical Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He holds a Master’s in Psychopharmacology and a PhD in Research Projects, and serves as Director of the Collaborative Centre in Geopsychiatry for Paraguay. His research spans public mental health, epidemiology, psychodermatology, and geopsychiatry, with over 380 indexed scientific publications, 25 books, and 79 book chapters. He is an International Fellow of the International Institute of Geopsychiatry, a peer reviewer for leading journals, and an invited speaker at numerous international conferences.
